Good for Wall Street -- Bad for Us

Our Revolution

Dear Compatriots,

One year ago today, Bernie Sanders shocked the political establishment by finishing in a virtual tie in the Iowa Caucus. This wouldn't have been possible if people like you didn't believe in the ability to change the world. Together we built a political revolution to transform America and create an economy that works for everyone, not just the one percent.

Over the past twelve days we have witnessed millions of people nationwide coming together to stand in solidarity with the communities affected by executive actions and in defense of our environment.

In the past two weeks, we've seen Donald Trump pick nominees who are good for Wall Street -- not the American people.

Now Trump has named Neil Gorsuch, a judge who believes that corporations are people, as a nominee to the Supreme Court.

Today, four Democratic Senators voted in favor of Donald Trump's nomination of Rex Tillerson for Secretary of State. In order for us to successfully block the nomination of Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court, we need these senators - Warner, King, Heitkamp and Manchin- to vote with the Democrats and oppose the nomination

The decisions made by the Supreme Court over the next four years will last for decades, long past Trump's term as president. Gorsuch would be the deciding vote on issues governing union rights, environmental protection, transgender rights, voter ID laws, gun control, and religious exemption.

Judge Gorsuch has an extensive record of siding with corporations, not people, in his court. All signs indicate that as a Supreme Court Justice, Gorsuch would place even more control over our elections into the hands corporate CEOs and super PACs. And when it comes to unions and workers' rights, Judge Gorsuch has sided against workers the majority of the time.

Justice -- racial, social and economic -- is the constant refrain that powers our movement. We need a Supreme Court nominee who will defend the rights of the people enshrined by the Constitution, not give those rights away to Wall Street.

The highest court in the land demands fairness and balance on the bench. We the People need a justice who will defend everyday people, not just the CEOs.

In solidarity,

Jeff Weaver
